The KUGB England Team returned from the European Shotokan Karate-do Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Sendai Kushiro members, Holly Sterling, Megan Dent, Chris Hamilton, Sam Light and Beth Nicholson were selected as part of a very strong England team.
Holly Sterling performed excellently taking a Bronze in the ladies individual Kumite for the second year running, unfortunatley she was withdrawn from the event of the advice of the doctor. This also meant that she was unable to continue in the Kata event where she was also in the semi final.
Sam Light making his debut at this level performed brilliantly making his way through to the final of the Cadet Kata and the Cadet Team Kumite, alongside Chris Hamilton. Sam performed the Kata Gankaku, which resulted in taking Silver along with another Silver in the Team Kumite. Chris Hamilton competing in his second European championships took silver in the Team Kumite and Gold in the Junior Team Kata for the second year running, alongside Hisham Saif and Jack Somers.
Megan Dent, alongside Beth Nicholson (another debutant) fought very well in the Junior Team Kumite resulting in a Bronze medal. Beth also came close to another medal in Cadet Kumite taking a very credible 5th place.
