Three Sendai Kushiro Karate members, John Bruce, Holly Sterling and Megan Dent were selected to represent England at the World Shotokan Karate-do Association Championships in Chicago, USA. The event took place over two days with cadets (16-17yrs) and Juniors (18-20yrs) on the Saturday 17th, and all senior events on Sunday 18th September. England performed admirably winning a total of five GOLD medals.
Sensei John took Silver in the Senior Male Team Kumite along with Chris Cray, Ryan Tucker, Jonathan McGorian, James McGorian and Joseph Rawcliffe. After a great team performance taking them into the final and only losing in the final by the narrowest of margins.
Holly Sterling was on superb form in both Kata and Kumite events as she took 5th place in the Female individual Kumite, 4th place in Female Individual Kata and with one of the results of the weekend, with teammates Ashley Scott and Rhianne Blundell took Gold in the Senior Ladies Team Kumite with an impressive 3-0 victory over Poland.
Megan Dent competing in her first World Championships fought her way to the final of the Cadet Ladies individual Kumite and after a close fight with fellow team mate Rebecca Rawcliffe it was Megan that took the Gold medal with two fast punches. Megan also competing in the Junior Team Kumite event along with Melissa Finlay and Rebecca Rawcliffe taking another Gold medal for England.
